The City of Johannesburg, which has long been the heart and pride of South Africa, is rapidly decaying due to decades of poor leadership, deliberate neglect, financial mismanagement and corruption, and a failure to enforce by-laws.

The collapse

Once a beacon of hope and opportunity, our city is now drowning in lawlessness, infrastructure collapse, and unchecked urban decay.

The consequences of inaction are dire and evident to see, with failing water systems resulting in massive water loss and no water for residents, death causing fires and unsafe living conditions in hijacked buildings, pothole-ridden roads and dead traffic lights, and a loss of dignity for all who call Johannesburg home.

Immediate action and decisive leadership is needed to restore the city to its world class status. 

Incapable and immoral leadership

The Johannesburg administration is led by incapable and uncaring politicians, who in turn appoint unqualified and corrupt individuals masquerading as public officials, to oversee a city plagued with corruption and financial mismanagement. The excessive lifestyles of public servants compared to their salaries requires a closer and critical look to show their unexplained wealth. 

Additionally, the city's supply chain management leaves much to be desired and an audit is necessary to deal with the high levels of mismanagement in the city's supply chain and uncover any fraud among politicians, city officials and tenderpreneurs. 

We can no longer tolerate a city where:

🚨 Hijacked buildings become death traps and criminal hideouts.

🚱 Water and road infrastructure is collapsing, leaving thousands without drinking water and safe roads.

⚖️ By-laws are not enforced, breeding a culture of lawlessness.

Enough is enough! 

We demand the Mayor of Johannesburg, Dada Morero, take the following immediate actions:

1. Institute forensic audits on the supply chain management of the city, and the skills, qualifications and lifestyles of members of the municipal executive, and senior city officials to ensure the city is led by capable and qualified officials, while eliminating those complicit in looting public funds.
2. Prioritise Municipal Infrastructure, more importantly the broken water systems, city buildings and unsafe roads by allocating an urgent and dedicated appropriation to repairing and modernising water and roads infrastructure.
3. Strict enforcement of eviction notices, resettlement plans for vulnerable residents, and prosecution of criminal landlords profiting from highjacked buildings and lawlessness.
4. Ensure a stronger enforcement of city by-laws by reinvesting in by-law enforcement units to ensure that public spaces, roads, and business districts are safe, clean, and properly regulated.

Johannesburg is at a breaking point and neglecting the city’s infrastructure and governance will lead to irreversible collapse. The residents of Johannesburg deserve better!
