Provide Free toilets in Mohalla Clinic open 24*7 for women living on the streets of Delhi
The Issue
Everyday Sonali, 21 remains exposed to the masses while carrying out the most basic needs of hygiene and sanitation. She juggles between paying for bathing, or going out for every release until she is unable to hold her bladder any further and often just to avoid the pay releases in open.
We are privileged not to experience and worry about such tribulations, but for many women, like Sonali, living on the streets of Delhi, this is their daily negotiations and usual way of life! Carrying out my academic research very closely with these women a few years back, the elocution about the way they maintain their hygiene kept me haunting and dumbfound.
Their everyday hygiene and sanitation are a constant struggle between deciding to avail the Sulabh (if it is nearby) facilities or just going in the open. And during the days they are menstruating their difficulties are augmented hundred-thousand times, and their chances of getting an infection increase manifolds.
The women on the streets of the capital stay in most deplorable conditions and are exposed to multiple vulnerabilities, at the hands of multiple perpetrators, in such a situation dignity becomes a privilege they are bereft of or just cannot afford.
I am therefore asking the CMO Shri. Arvind Kejriwal, and Minister of Women Child Development - Shri Kailash Gahlot to at least take a small but a very strong step by making Free toilet facility as part of Mohalla Clinic accessible 24*7 to all the women living on the streets of Delhi.
