Petition for RTÉ to have a public consultation about Ireland's Eurosong

The Issue

There was a time that Ireland was considered to be a Eurovision powerhouse. With 7 wins under our belt, no other country matched our Eurovision success. Of course, that was almost 30 years ago, and as of 2023, we now share the title of most wins with Sweden. In the near three decades since our last win, we've been lucky to even qualify with an act, let alone to rank well in the voting, and have gone from one of the best-performing countries, to one of the worst. This has to change.

It is often said that the Eurovision is political, and allows for block voting. Whether or not you believe this to be true, signing this petition means that you believe there to be a need for for Ireland to look inward, too - at the entire Eurosong selection process by our broadcaster, RTÉ. The current system is not fit for purpose.

RTÉ must consider the format and demographics of its Eurosong selection process and invest more heavily in attracting and nurturing Irish songwriters, leaning into our culture through our music and placing a greater emphasis on international marketing for our entries.

This petition challenges RTÉ and the entire Irish Eurovision delegation to hold a public consultation, open to anyone with an interest in taking part, so as to discuss the future of Eurosongs and how to improve. The voices of songwriters, performers, knowledged Irish and international Eurofans and general members of the public all must be heard.

If you want to ensure that Ireland encourages authentic songwriting, perfects its selection process and gives our Irish representatives the best fighting chance on the international stage, then sign this petition now.
