WE WANT ANSWERS AND JUSTICE FOR SANIYAH CHEATHAM

WE WANT ANSWERS AND JUSTICE FOR SANIYAH CHEATHAM
The Issue
SAY HER NAME: SANIYAH CHEATHAM
Saniyah Cheatham should be alive!
On Saturday, July 5, at 12:40am 18 year old Saniyah Cheatham was found unresponsive at the 41st Precinct station house in Hunts Point, Bronx, where she was later pronounced deceased at Lincoln Hospital. After Saniyah’s family received the call of her death, they have still not been allowed to see Saniyah. Time is passing and the family still is waiting for answers!
Saniyah deserved to live a full, joyful life not to be remembered as another name added to the long list of Black girls whose deaths are ignored or dismissed. The silence surrounding what happened to Saniyah is not just heartbreaking, it is a glaring injustice.
We refuse to allow Saniyah's story to be buried.
WE WANT ANSWERS ELVIS BADIA, 41st Precinct Commanding Officer.
We stand with the family, friends, and community members of Saniyah Cheatham to demand the following:
- Release the names and badge numbers of ALL NYPD officers (on and off duty) who were present at the 41st Precinct on the days of Friday, July 4, 2025 and Saturday, July 5, 2025
- Body camera footage of ALL NYPD officers present and those who interacted with Saniyah from the time leading up to her arrest. This includes transparency and names of the NYPD officer(s) who performed the arrest, the processing of Saniyah at the 41st Precinct, and called Emergency Medical Services (EMS) when she was unresponsive.
- Immediate release of a detailed medical autopsy report including a face-to-face conversation between Saniyah’s family and ALL medical examiners who performed the autopsy of Saniyah Cheatham (with lawyer/witnesses present)
- Footage from ALL cameras located both in and outside the 41st Precinct leading up to Saniyah’s death
Mental & emotional health support services as well as financial resources for Saniyah’s family as they grieve, arrange her funeral services, and seek justice - Complete and full transparency from NYPD law enforcement and NYC elected officials, including the release of ALL relevant documents, camera / surveillance footage, and communication related to the arrest and death of Saniyah Cheatham.
- Saniyah was not invisible to us. She mattered. Her life mattered. Her death deserves answers. Saniyah and her family deserve justice.
We will NOT stop until we have answers and justice. @NYPD @ELVIS BADIA
