Add input-based matchmaking to Apex Legends PC lobbies

Add input-based matchmaking to Apex Legends PC lobbies
The Issue
The Objective
We, the undersigned, call upon Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts to address the unsustainable mechanical imbalance between Mouse and Keyboard (MnK) and Controller inputs in Apex Legends PC lobbies. To preserve the future of the game as a high-skill competitive shooter, we urge the implementation of measures that ensure gunfights are determined by raw player skill rather than software-assisted tracking.
The Data: A Statistical Inequity
The debate over Aim Assist is no longer a matter of opinion; it is a matter of documented statistical fact. Analysis of R5Reloaded Season 5 data (N=3,229 players) reveals a fundamental disparity in mechanical performance:
- The 99th Percentile Gap: The average controller player achieves a 36.54% accuracy rate, which effectively out-performs 99.4% of the MnK population.
The "Human Limit": Elite MnK players in the top 1% average 35.78% accuracy, failing to reach the performance level of the average controller user. - The Reaction Advantage: Rotational Aim Assist reacts to directional changes with 0ms delay, a feat physically impossible for the human nervous system, which averages a 150–200ms delay.
- The Performance Delta: There is a staggering +8.13% difference in mean accuracy favoring controller users over MnK users.
Our Proposal:
We urge Respawn Entertainment to implement at least one of the following three solutions to restore competitive integrity to the PC platform:
- Remove Rotational AA in PC Lobbies: Transition controller support to "Slowdown" Aim Assist only. This preserves the sensitivity help needed for thumbsticks while requiring the player to perform the actual tracking of the target.
- Input-Based Matchmaking: Separate the player pools entirely by input type. Allow MnK players to compete against MnK, and Controller players against Controller, ensuring every match is played under identical mechanical limitations.
- Ranked Competitive Integrity: Disable software-assisted aiming specifically in high-tier Ranked play (Diamond, Master, and Predator) on the PC platform to ensure the highest ranks reflect unassisted human skill.
