In 2018 September Burton became the target of extreme abuse from her then, common law partner. As an attorney, he began recording her all day every day in order to build a case against her so he would get full-custody of their 3 children and financially abuse her by leaving her with debt while taking all their mutually accumulated assets. She reported this unethical conduct to the Colorado Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel who, after initially expressing concern that an attorney had created surreptitious recordings of her, came back to say that they found his conduct of recording all day every day for 7 full months to fall within the definition of "ordinary" behavior. 

He was physically abusive, causing a shoulder injury that required x-rays and a permanent spinal injury that required x-rays, an MRI, and months of physical therapy. Even with all of the medical records to prove he caused these injuries, the courts found that September was guilty of domestic violence and he was not. The abuser was then awarded full-custody of 3 very young girls. 

After their separation in March 2019, this abuser began stalking September. The stalking escalated over a period of many months until he finally hacked into her home security system at 11:15pm on Oct. 10, 2019. After enduring 7 months of stalking and taking the Mosaic Threat Assessment, on which he scored a 9 out of 10, September fled the state in fear for her life.

The judge who oversaw this case was a volunteer in the same small organization as September's abuser for several years. This judge should have recused herself due to their relationship but she chose not to.

Family Court System abuse is a problem that is gaining a tremendous level of attention in recent years as more and more victims begin to speak out. 

September is a very loving mother to her 7 children and should never have lost custody. This man was investigated by DHS in October 2018 for leaving bruises on a child. September has never been investigated by any child protective agencies.

Police have never so much as brought the abuser and stalker in for questioning and now her children live with an abuser because police have failed to serve and protect as they promise.

I am starting this petition to draw attention to family court system abuse and to bring my children back into the arms of their mother. I want the police to launch an investigation and prosecute the abuser and stalker, as well as see financial justice restored.

Signatures will be sent to Governor Jared Polis, CBI, CSPD, Mayor Suthers, 4th Judicial DA, and other authorities as deemed appropriate to see action taken and justice served.
