Oklahoma Couple Charged—Stop Abuse in the Name of “Rescue”

Oklahoma Couple Charged—Stop Abuse in the Name of “Rescue”
The Issue
When people surrender animals to a rescue, they believe they are giving them a second chance at life.
In Tulsa, that trust may have been broken.
A pastor and his wife, who said they were operating a rescue, have been charged with animal cruelty after authorities reported unsanitary conditions, removed multiple animals, and discovered a deceased animal in the home.
This case is deeply disturbing. But what makes it even more troubling is that it happened under the label of “rescue.”
Rescue organizations are supposed to protect animals, not put them at risk. Yet in many places, there are few consistent requirements to verify that a rescue is legitimate, inspected, or capable of providing safe care.
That gap creates opportunity for neglect to go unnoticed until it becomes a crisis.
This is not just about one case. It is about a system that allows individuals to present themselves as rescues without clear oversight, standards, or accountability.
Animals deserve better. So do the people who trust these organizations.
We call on the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry, as well as state and local leaders, to establish and enforce stronger oversight of animal rescue operations. This includes mandatory registration, routine inspections, clear care standards, and swift intervention when conditions are unsafe.
We also call for full accountability in this case, so that those responsible face appropriate consequences.
No one should be able to operate under the name of “rescue” without meeting basic standards of care.
When oversight fails, animals suffer.
Sign this petition to demand stronger regulation of animal rescues, accountability in this case, and real protections for animals across Oklahoma.
