Vail Gore Creek Petition

In September 2021, Vail Resorts unleashed 2 million gallons of water—laced with toxic algaecide—into Gore Creek and Mill Creek, killing 120 fish, damaging the aquatic ecosystem and poisoning a 1.5-mile stretch of this cherished Colorado waterway. The damage was from a snowmaking valve left open, a preventable disaster.

Yet, for the $617,000 Ford Park restoration project to heal Gore Creek that is set to begin Fall 2026, Vail paid just $250,000 —less than half—while taxpayers, grants, and local groups covered the rest.

A $5.5 billion company touting an “Epic Promise” doesn't need to lean on the public to show they're stewards of the environment. Gore Creek’s been struggling since 2012 from urban development, Vail made it worse and is hoping it will all go away with a small settlement & more distracting PR pledges.

This was an opportunity for Vail Resorts to pick up the slack for the community and make right on their commitments.

This isn’t just about the Gore Creek, it’s to bring awareness to Vails sustainability efforts not being what they claim with a call to do better. They have a negligent track record to show for — from wetland impacts and water pollution to killing wildlife and lacking accountability for their actions.
It’s time for change.

*We are not asking Vail to pay anymore money for this project as the funds are already allocated.  However,

We call on Vail Resorts to:

  1. Voluntarily explain to the citizens of Eagle County and Colorado why Vail felt they couldn't contribute more to the project.
  2. Pledge to contribute more than their legal requirement as environmental stewards for any future environmental harm caused by Vail. In other words, a call to step it up.
  3. Rebuild trust with locals, visitors and concerned people over the Epic Promises epic fail — as well as address its faltering performance since the 2020s

Help bring awareness to Vails decades long pattern of negative environmental impacts and neglectful operations as this restoration project will be put back in the spotlight this year and into next.
