Petition Title: Replace The Simpsons Ride and Permanently Bring Back Back to the Future: The Ride

The Core Issue:

Why The Simpsons Ride Needs to Be Replaced

We are calling on NBCUniversal, Comcast, and Universal Creative to permanently close

The Simpsons Ride at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida.

Originally opened in 2008 as a replacement for

Back to the Future: The Ride,

this attraction has become outdated and problematic for several reasons:

Intellectual Property Inconsistency:

The Simpsons is not an original Universal property;

it is owned by 20th Century Studios,

which is now a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company.

Inappropriate Theme:

The show’s crude humor, mature themes, and cynical parodies do not align with a family-friendly park environment.

In light of modern cultural awareness and global movements

for social justice and respect, the ride's outdated, insensitive humor is no longer appropriate.

Uncomfortable Ride System:

The current simulation causes significant motion sickness, and several special effects are highly unpopular with guests.

Technical and Physical Issues with the Current Ride

The current ride experience includes uncomfortable and unhygienic elements that need to be permanently removed, including:

The Baby Powder Effect:

The synthetic baby powder scent and moisture spray from the Maggie Simpson

scene are widely considered unpleasant and unhygienic by guests.

Seat Vibrations:

The intense electrical buzzing and vibrating motion in the seats at the end of the ride cause physical discomfort.

Intrusive Water Effects:

The sudden, heavy water sprays disrupt the guest experience rather than enhancing it.

The Vision:

Return of the Institute of Future Technology

We propose completely restoring the iconic,

fan-favorite Back to the Future: The Ride, capturing the magic of the original May 2, 1991 debut.

The transformation would include:

The Ride System:

Re-theming the ride vehicles back into Doc Brown’s 8-passenger DeLorean Time Machine,

operating on a smooth, digitally remastered simulation system similar to Disney's Star Tours.

Classic Special Effects: Reinstating the classic theatrical fog, cold smoke effects,

and immersive lighting from the original 1991 attraction.

Queue and Pre-show Restoration:

Rebuilding the Institute of Future Technology queue line,

restoring the digital pre-show video clips, and placing a screen-accurate

DeLorean replica prop in front of the theater entrances.

Land Expansion:

Converting the surrounding

Springfield dining and merchandise areas into a fully themed Hill Valley expansion,

celebrating Universal's most legendary sci-fi film trilogy.

Global Expansion Goals

Once the ride is successfully restored in Hollywood and Florida,

we urge Universal Creative to expand the

Back to the Future franchise internationally:

Universal Studios Japan:

Return the attraction by

replacing underutilized spaces or temporary attractions like Backdraft.

Universal Studios Singapore:

Construct a brand-new, first-generation

Back to the Future attraction to bring this timeless story to Southeast Asia.

Conclusion

Back to the Future is a core pillar of Universal's cinematic history.

It offers a more exciting, timeless, and comfortable experience for guests of all ages.
