The Issue

Each year, 1 out of 5 Orange County residents will experience a behavioral health issue. Seven years ago, Orange County acknowledged that access to behavioral health care was fragmented and out of reach. Be Well OC took steps to solve that problem — building two world-class facilities ready to serve everyone in the community.

The solution is here. The Be Well OC Orange and Irvine Campuses are ready to serve the community, but the County of Orange is standing in the way.

  • Since 2024, the sobering center has been closed at the Be Well Orange Campus – cutting off a critical point of entry for people struggling with substance use disorder.
  • Today at the Orange Campus, the County is only allowing Medi-Cal patients to receive residential treatment, leaving beds empty while commercially insured neighbors are turned away.
  • The Irvine Campus is ready to serve the community – but County approval delays are keeping the doors closed to the people who need it most.

The need is urgent. The facilities are ready. The only thing standing between Orange County residents and life-saving behavioral health care is the County of Orange’s refusal to open the doors to all.
