Ro Khanna is a prominent American politician and lawyer, serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 17th congressional district since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, Khanna gained recognition by defeating eight-term incumbent Mike Honda in the 2016 general election. He initially ran for the same seat in 2014. Khanna's political career includes serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the U.S. Department of Commerce under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2011. An advocate for progressive policies, he endorsed and co-chaired Bernie Sanders' presidential campaigns in 2016 and 2020. Khanna holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Chicago and a JD from Yale University. His professional roles have included positions at law firms, academia, and strategic initiatives in the private sector.
