Fire Officer Jones and City of Detroit convict him of assault November 2022
Fire Officer Jones and City of Detroit convict him of assault November 2022
The Issue
I am the Sister of Sheldy Smith, she was victimized and assaulted by Detroit police Corporal Dewayne Jones as a hospital patient. This humiliating beating was captured on video and was internationally covered by social and traditional /terrestrial media. Sheldy was having a mental episode, naked, restrained, and beat by CPL Jones. Unfortunately, due to mitigating circumstances; Sheldy cannot represent herself. That responsibility falls on me as she has personally requested.
DPD Chief James Craig launched an internal investigation and asked the Board of Police Commissioners (BOPC) to suspend CPL Jones without pay. Against Chief Craig’s recommendation, the BOPC members supported Jones' actions.
In 2020, the BOPC voted unanimously NOT to promote CPL Jones.
At the BOPC April 9th, 2020 Meeting DPD attorney Grant Ha announced the decision by un-elected rogue arbitrator George Roumell to promote Corporal Dewayne Jones to the rank of Sergeant. Roumell sent the message by email, but a formal letter is expected.
On the BOPC April 16th, 2020 Grant Ha presented the same information. Even though the arbitrator hadn't completed any official documentation, many BOPC members, including Board Chairperson Lisa Carter, seemed ready to accept the promotion as Corporal Jones's current status. The Charter requires that all promotions must be approved by the BOPC, so there is no promotion because they voted against it... regardless of what some usurper wishes to claim.
Thus, I reiterate my respectful request for the COPD to ensure CPL Jones is NOT promoted. This promotion misaligns with the values of Detroit as well as legality of the Charter of the City of Detroit I look forward to hearing from you soon.
