The Issue

Malaysia faces real challenges.

Many Malaysians struggle with the rising cost of living, stagnant wages, housing affordability, healthcare access, educational opportunities, and economic uncertainty.

Young Malaysians are increasingly leaving the country in search of better opportunities abroad, and citizens feel that their voices are not being adequately heard.

The recent removal of a petition  signed by hundreds of thousands of Malaysians may have ended one particular campaign, but it has not ended the concerns that motivated so many citizens to support it:

Many Malaysians feel that their government do not support them but instead focuses too much on foreign causes that have little to do with Malaysians.

Many Malaysians feel that the Malaysian government must place the interests, welfare, opportunities, and security of Malaysian citizens at the center of public policy, and that it has not been doing enough to address that feeling; instead, we feel that Malaysia has all too often actively created problems for its own citizens by involving itself in foreign causes and draining our resources to do so, framing this as 'solidarity'  - as an example, look no further than the way that some political leaders have entered into such solidarity campaigns and ask yourself: were they sincere, or were they trying to gain an advantage at the ballot box by exploiting your goodwill?

This petition is not about hostility towards any race, religion, nationality, or vulnerable community. It is about priorities.

Malaysia has always been a country celebrated for its multicultural diversity and unity, but it is crucial that the welfare of its own citizens takes precedence over foreign causes.

We contribute to the economy and society, share in an ongoing and evolving experience of nationhood, and it’s only fair that our rights and needs are at the forefront of governmental priorities. In other words, whether it’s in the areas of employment, housing, healthcare, or education, Malaysian citizens with legitimate citizenship regardless of race or religion should be the primary beneficiaries of the nation's policies and resources.

While Malaysia may continue to play a humanitarian role in the region and internationally, such efforts must be balanced against the responsibility of government to serve its own citizens first, and be seen to serve its citizens first.

We therefore call upon the Government of Malaysia and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to:

  • Place the interests of Malaysian citizens at the forefront of policymaking and show that Malaysian citizens are the priority of the Malaysian government.
  • Conduct transparent assessments of public expenditures and resources devoted to non-citizen populations and foreign causes.
  • Prioritize affordable housing, healthcare, education, and employment opportunities for Malaysians while valuing the contributions of valuable economic migrants, seeking the best talent in the world regardless of race, religion, or nationality to serve the advancement of Malaysia and its people.
  • Establish a clear "Malaysians First" framework that recognizes the government's primary responsibility to its citizens.
  • Ensure that any humanitarian commitments are made with full transparency and accountability to the Malaysian public.

The concerns of Malaysians are real, and the removal of one petition does not erase the concerns of hundreds of thousands of Malaysians.

Those concerns deserve to be heard, debated, and addressed.

If you believe that Malaysian citizens should remain the first priority of the Malaysian government even as we endeavor to create a valuable environment and legacy for all who value our nation, please sign and share this petition.
