Mission
VolunteerMatch's mission is to help everyone find a great place to volunteer by making it easier for good causes and good people to connect.
Programs
VolunteerMatch offers an online toolbox that supports a vibrant, interactive, and ever-growing community of nonprofit, volunteer and business leaders committed to civic engagement. The ease and simplicity of the service have, as of summer 2007, generated more than 3 million volunteer referrals to 52,000+ community service organizations, helping address real-world needs nationwide.
VolunteerMatch works to:
- Grow the community of nonprofit organizations actively engaging the time and talent of volunteers;
- Expand the number, quality, visibility, diversity and range of opportunities for volunteers to serve the public good; and,
- Increase the number of volunteers able to find a meaningful opportunity to serve their communities.
VolunteerMatch members input their ZIP Code and interests, and instantly receive a list of current volunteer opportunities in their community. With a simple click of the mouse, volunteers then refer themselves to the organization and volunteer opportunity of their choice.
Nonprofit and community service organizations publish their volunteer needs directly to VolunteerMatch to recruit and communicate with volunteers. A tracking feature allows these organizations to generate up-to-the-minute reports on volunteer activity.
VolunteerMatch also offers a suite of tools that help companies of all sizes grow and manage their Employee Volunteer Programs on a regional, national, and global scale. VolunteerMatch Corporate Solutions help clients manage special events, track employees' volunteer hours, and measure the impact of their programs in the community. Current VolunteerMatch Corporate Solutions clients include Charles Schwab & Co., Inc.; Dell; Gap; Lexmark International; Merrill Lynch; Target; CDW; Medtronic; Nationwide; Morgan Stanley; Johnson & Johnson; Merck; General Mills; and more.
History
VolunteerMatch was founded in 1998 to serve communities across the country by connecting good people and good causes – online.
Its mission is clear: To help everyone find a great place to volunteer. The concept is simple: Nonprofits post their volunteer opportunities and individuals find opportunities that match their skills, interests, schedule and location. The model is powerful: In 2006 VolunteerMatch delivered over 75,000,000 pages of information on service and volunteering; was the preferred volunteer recruiting tool for over 44,000 nonprofits; averaged more than 38,000 active volunteer opportunities a day, and attracted over 4.7 million unique visitors searching for an opportunity to improve their community. The service makes a difference: VolunteerMatch’s estimated “Social Return on Investment” rose to $294,514,084 in 2006.
