On Monday, May 8, 2023, A person stole a vehicle and was being chased by police; he made a U-turn and drove into oncoming traffic going 120mph. My daughter, Madison (Madi), and her boyfriend, Jayce,  were heading to meet his family to go fishing. Madi was only 18 years old and was going to graduate this month, and Jayce was 19 years old. They were great kids and talked about the next stage in their lives; college, trade schools, and possibly marriage. The stolen vehicle struck them head-on. The cop was chasing them for approximately 70 seconds. No one should lose their lives to a senseless act that could have easily been prevented.

The families of Jayce and Madison would like to see North Carolina implement changes to reflect when it is appropriate to chase a vehicle. Apprehending a non-violent suspect is never more important than the safety of innocent motorists or deputies.
