Allow U.S. Farmers to Grow Industrial Hemp

Allow U.S. Farmers to Grow Industrial Hemp

The Issue

Because Hemp is such an amazing plant that lasts a lifetime. Because, as a Fabric, Hemp filters UV rays, so your skin is protected.  Hemp products are soft, against the skin, and resistant to bacterial growth, so you wont smell, but no guarantees according to your own personal hygene. Hemp has four times the strength of cotton. Wash it forever. Hemp also has a porus personality, that allows it to breath, keeping you much cooler in the summertime, but like wool will keep you warmer in the cooler months. Again because we are all worried about our natural resouce Water, Hemp only uses 1/20th the amount of water as compared to regular cotton. (all Docs cotton products are organic, grown in fields that have been chemical free for at least three years) The cellulose level of Hemp is almost three times that of wood, which makes it a better choice than wood for paper products. ( Hemp turns out four times as much Pulp per acre over trees! ) This will leave us and our children with more forests for watershed, wildlife habitat and of course oxygen production. Hemp can be recycled seven times as opposed to woods only four. And no pesticides or fertilizers needed! ( 50% of all the worlds pesticides are sprayed on industrial cotton )

Hemp only has a.01% to .05% THC content, while marijuana has upwards of 22% today. If you smoke your shirt all your going to experience is a whole lot of trips to the bathroom because one of the many benifits of high fibre Hemp is, it is a great natural laxative. Hemp Oil is extremely rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 Essential fatty acids. At a volume level of 81%, Hemp Oil is the richest known source of these essential fatty acids ( The " Good Guys " ) Its also quite high in some amino acids, including Gamma Linoleic Acid ( GLA ), a very rare nutrient found in Mothers Milk, all these nutrients help cut the risks for heart disease, cancer and arthritis, to name a few. As far as Medical Marijuana, thats for another forum. ( see: DOCS PAGE ) But alas, Hemp is illegal to grow in the United States. It has been mixed up with marijuana and thought to be interchangeable.....WRONG.....Look around, China, England, France, Russia and Canada, oh yeah they all grow Hemp. Worldwide, 30 countries grow hemp, the United States does not, BUT we are the biggest user of hemp products in the World!   Hemp can be rotated with soy beans and reduce Cyst Nematode infestations by up to 50 to 75 percent, without pestisides. In England, Hemp is grown as a rotation crop with wheat, which has resulted in a 20% increase in wheat yields without any commensurate increase in chemical use to farm it. Why are  we importing this valuable crop when we can grow it here as a rotation crop that only has benifits? Think of all the new industries and jobs Hemp could bring to our economy.

THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS BUSINE$$

WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT PAYING FARMERS NOT TO GROW CROPS ( ON 90 MILLION GOVERNMENT OWNED ACRES ) WHEN WE HAVE THIS VALUABLE RESOURCE AND TECHNOLOGY AT OUR FINGERTIPS? ENOUGH HEMP COULD BE GROWN ON 90 MILLION ACRES TO REPLACE FOSSIL FUELS AND TREES.

1) HISTORICAL FACT: George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both grew Hemp. Ben Franklin owned a hemp paper mill. Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Indepedence on Hemp paper from that mill.

2) Canvass is Arabic for Hemp. It was made into sails and rope for the first ships that explored the World.

3) The oldest found paper was made from 100% Hemp in a Chinese text dating back to 770AD. Hemp has been grown for at least 12,000 years.

4) Hemp fabrics go all the way back to 8,000BC in ancient Mesopotamia.

5) Christopher Columbus' ships were all rigged with 100% Hemp sails and rope.

6) A 1938 Popular Mechanics article descibed Hemp as " the new billion dollar crop ". Does anyone have the math on how much a billion dollars was in 1938? Send it to me if you do.  It was the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937, which placed an extremely high tax on the cannabis plant and made it cost effectively impossible to grow Industrial Hemp. So all further development, in this country, came to a halt.

IF IT WAS A BILLION DOLLAR CROP IN 1938 WHAT WOULD IT BE IN 2013?

7) HISTORICAL FACT: In 1941, just three years after the Popular Mechanics article, Henry Ford, built a car body based 100% on Hemp Plastics Technology. At the time it was 10 times stronger than any other product in the world. His goal was to use all organic materials to build, fuel and run automobiles. He was a very smart man, way ahead of his time.

8) HISTORICAL FACT: Rudolf Diesel designed his engine to run on Hemp Oil. After all, there was no Diesel Fuel because he hadn't invented the engine yet and Hemp Oil was the best choice. The whole concept of the Diesel Engine comes from Hemp Technology.

Hemp Oil, the first Bio-Fuel.

Mr. Diesel and the first engine that ran, on Hemp Oil! (circa:1897)

9) BMW is now experimenting with Hemp Products to make cars lighter and more recyclable.

10) Kimberly Clark ( a Fortune 500 company ) has a mill in France that produces Hemp paper, preferrd for Bibles because it lasts a very long time ( up to 1500 years )  and doesnt yellow because it doesn't contain acids . They build homes in France using Hemp based concrete. Using an ancient Egyptian recipe Madame France Perrier (yep, the Lady of Water )  makes a concrete mix of Hemp Hurds ( the inner fibre ) and limestone. Hemp Concrete has a sixth the weight of normal concrete and lasts a very long time, after all, it is an Egyptian recipe and they knew how to build things that last.

11) The products that can be made from Hemp number over 25,000. Every part of the Hemp plant has a purpose and value.

ITS IN THE PEOPLES POWER TO CHANGE ALL THIS, AND START DEMANDING MORE HEMP AND BAMBOO BASED PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGY TO MAKE THIS A BETTER, CLEANER AND SAFER WORLD BOTH FOR US AND OUR CHILDREN. LETS REGAIN THESE LOST AND MOST VALUABLE RESOURCES.
