Stop Super PACs From Buying Political Power

Stop Super PACs From Buying Political Power
The Issue
The American people are sick and tired watching our political representation being sold to the highest bidder. It is often when we feel the most helpless that we can create the most change.
Two Supreme Court decisions created the legal framework for unlimited independent political spending by SuperPAC's: specifically Citizens United and SpeechNow.org
The Supreme Court held that the government generally cannot prohibit corporations, unions, or nonprofits from spending money independently to advocate for or against political candidates. The Court treated political spending as protected speech under the First Amendment.
In the interest of not limiting speech, as it's framed by these two controversial Supreme Court decisions, our proposal is to limit the amount SuperPAC's are able to spend to be a 1-to-1 match of individual contributions.
If a political candidate raises $1 million dollars from individual donors, the SuperPAC's can match that and spend up to $1 million dollars as well.
Let us urge our lawmakers to introduce legislation to cap SuperPAC spending in line with individual contributions, ensuring our political system truly represents the will of the people. Please sign and share this petition to ensure everyone’s voice is heard.
Though this is not a complete solution, this would at least give more of an incentive to reach actual voters and limit the ability for SuperPAC's to essentially purchase political positions outright.
The more we see political expenditures coming from groups with ulterior motives that do not align with the needs and desires of the people, the further the individual citizenry is from choosing who represents them. Limiting SuperPAC spending to match the total of individual contributions to House or Senate candidates is a reasonable step to minimizing big money influence on American politics.
By signing this petition, we are making a small attempt to change a big problem.
