Keep Mountain View's Castro Street Walkable

Keep Mountain View's Castro Street Walkable
The Issue
Closing Castro Street during the pandemic has been an enormous success. Downtown is vibrant with walkers, diners, and browsers. Most of our businesses love it.
But it’s still just temporary; it’s stopgap.
We need a great plan for a permanently walkable downtown, with signs, greenery, and a design that our businesses like. For that to happen, the Mountain View City Council must declare Castro permanently closed to traffic and work with the community and businesses on its design.
We ask for these:
• Permanent closure to vehicles of the first three blocks of Castro, with the cross streets remaining open
• Attractive landscaping and streetscaping, including the areas behind Castro Street businesses
• Improved signage to help us find the businesses we are looking for
• Regulatory modifications that enable our downtown merchants to respond to their changing markets and environment
