Make Canada's COVID Alert App available for Alberta!

Make Canada's COVID Alert App available for Alberta!
The Issue
Canada’s COVD Alert App has been available for use since July 30th but doesn’t work yet in Alberta, although it’s available now in 8 other provinces/territories.
Although Alberta developed their own App, it doesn't work when your phone is locked and the screen is off. The Alberta App doesn't use the built-in new feature available by Apple and Google which allows it to run in the background.
Leaving your phone unlocked and the App running with the screen on not only kills your battery, but is a security risk if you leave your phone unattended. Alberta has decided to scrap the provincial App and go to the Canada wide app, but is taking their sweet time doing it.
It has been well over 3 months since the Canada App was launched. The delay by Alberta is only due to what appears to be simple politics.
The App is privacy based using globally accepted technology that allows contact tracing quickly and anonymously.
On September 18th, SK and NB were added to the list of provinces which allows the ability to "report a positive COVID case as confirmed by the Province".
As of today, all of these locations have the feature enabled: NB, NL, NT, NU, ON, PE, QC, SK
It is well known the "problem provinces" with the majority of cases in Canada are ON, QC, AB and BC. Of these provinces, only ON and QC have the feature enabled, leaving two other hot spots where the App is desperately needed
It makes no sense to focus energy on getting any further provinces enabled until the remaining hot spots (AB and BC) can report positive COVID cases. Without this ability, these apps are useless.
Alberta was denied the ability to use Apple and Google's technology when Alberta went off and developed their own App, as these platforms work best at a country level (which makes sense for people who travel within Canada all the time). This is no reason to not get on board with all the other provinces.
Many Canadians have already downloaded the App and understand how it works. They have accepted the responsibility to do their part in preventing the spread of this disease. It's time the Province stop delaying this any further.
With in-school learning starting only a couple of weeks ago, this App should have been enabled before the schools started. Schools have been an area of great concern for many Canadians, and having this App working properly would help alleviate many concerns.
The delay is unlikely a technical/computer issue as many other provinces (and countries) are using this app successfully. It is likely a funding or political issue.
In a recent press briefing, someone from the media finally asked where the App was, and the vague answer was simply “Several details still need to be worked out” and “We don’t have a firm timeframe of when it will be available”.
These answers are not acceptable; Albertans need to either be told legitimate details about these delays or our Government needs to get the App up and running now.
Do your part by signing this petition and let the Alberta decision-makers know it is unacceptable for Alberta to not be using this life-saving technology.
The App empowers our population to do their part. The app will take time after it is fully available to provide results. We need to get on this now to prevent future restrictions being implemented this fall in light of the increased risk of the Flu Season, additional school exposures, and recent ongoing increase in cases.
