We are calling on Austin Mayor Kirk Watson and the organizers of South by Southwest to cancel the session with Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber.  This is due to Mr. Khosrowshahi's racist remarks against persons of Indian descent and Uber's exploitative practices towards its drivers, including sub-minimum wage pay and coercion. Drivers who decline unprofitable rides face punitive measures such as throttling, where they receive no ride offers for a certain period. It is estimated that 50% of Uber drivers earn less than the local minimum wage (source: Economic Policy Institute). By giving Mr. Khosrowshahi an audience, we would be endorsing these unfair labor practices which stand against Austin values. We believe in fair wages and respectful treatment for all workers in our city. Please join us in urging Mayor Watson and South by Southwest to take a stand against labor exploitation by cancelling this session with Mr. Khosrowshahi - sign this petition today!
