The Issue

Seeking safety and a permanent resolution for my circumstances, I reached Europe in 2014. Nevertheless, in September 2015, I endured an unlawful deportation from Sweden to Greece, precipitated by misleading and deficient information given to me in Greece one year earlier.

In the absence of legal aid, my right to appeal was also denied and any attempt threatened with an entry ban, jeopardizing my chances of securing refuge elsewhere in Europe. Consequently, I was deported in September 2015 on the basis of Dublin Regulations, notwithstanding their suspension for Greece and concurrent opening of the border for Asylum seekers’ departure from the country.

Due to existing regulations, my ability to seek Asylum/Protection in Europe is now extinguished. Non-European Union nations like Canada, the United States, and Australia require a Resettlement Referral from the UNHCR before contemplating my Asylum request.

In Greece, I am denied legal aid, precluding my attempt to litigate. My transfer to a deportation camp is not permitted, access to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is obstructed, and my exit from the country is prohibited. Consequently, I have endured persecution and excessive hardship and deprivation for years, treated without the dignity, safety, or prosperity due to any human being, as if devoid of any rights to life.

In pursuit of a lasting resolution from the UNHCR, my efforts have led to 27 court appearances, six incarcerations, and the demolition of my shelters outside the UNHCR office six times, alongside the seizure of all my possessions therein. Efforts to suppress my advocacy have also included the seizure, destruction, or theft of my cellphones on five separate instances.

I have been stripped of my means of subsistence, exhausting all personal resources necessary for my existence. Denied the 150 Euro monthly stipend provided to other Refugees for a decade (totaling 18,000 Euros), my current survival hinges on the generosity of others’ contributions.

Since March 19th, 2018, my status has become undocumented, bereft of shelter, sustenance, and financial resources, as my possessions have been seized. It appears that the provision of food and water has been leveraged as a means to coerce me, potentially to the point of starvation, in an effort to conceal my circumstances.

In pursuit of Justice and Freedom for my life, I have withstood three Hunger Strikes from 2017 to 2020, while enduring daily forced starvation since. My collective strike durations include the first (64 days – March 21st to May 23rd, 2017), second (73 days – June 23rd to September 03rd, 2020), and third (285 days – September 14th, 2021, to June 24th, 2022). To date, I have partaken in a 422-day Hunger Strike before the UNHCR since March 21st, 2017. This reflects my commitment to persistence, endurance, and forbearance in the quest for a just and sustainable resolution to my plight via the legal avenues presumed to be accessible.

Yet, despite enduring prolonged hunger strikes and continued protest in deplorable, inhumane conditions outside the UNHCR office—the very entity professing to support refugees—my critical situation not only persists unaddressed, but worsening with each passing day, practically endangering my life, my safety and well-being.

The global disregard for the egregious violations against Refugees, including my own experiences in this nation, has intensified perpetrators’ impunity. The escalating situation negates our humanity, denying us dignity, security, and prosperity—as if we have no right to exist. Such experiences are inadmissible for any individual, under any circumstances.

Your immediate action against the injustices I face in Greece is imperative. Demonstrate your support by signing the petition and disseminating it widely. Your solidarity is greatly appreciated.

Yours Respectfully;
