The Urgent Need for Safer Air Quality in Schools: Woodlawn Middle School

The Urgent Need for Safer Air Quality in Schools: Woodlawn Middle School
The Issue
Demand Safer Indoor Air Quality Standards for Woodlawn Middle School!
Sign this petition to urge District 96 to take action!
The Problem:
Independent parent led air quality tests at Woodlawn Middle School revealed alarming mold levels, including Aspergillus, Penicillium, and other harmful molds linked to respiratory issues and illness. Despite this, the school declared the air quality “excellent” and took no further action.
Parents conducted additional tests (December 2021–February 2022), revealing mold levels 10 times higher than normal and increasing over time. 2023 and 2024 parent led studies detected airborne mycotoxins, which are toxic to human health.
Why This Matters:
• No established safe limits for mold and mycotoxin exposure in schools.
• Up to 25% of the population is genetically predisposed to mold-related illnesses. (Source)
• Mold exposure can cause immune suppression, neurotoxicity, chronic fatigue, ADHD, and respiratory issues (Internal Medicine Review, NIH).
What We Demand:
1. Bi-annual independent mold-specific DNA testing (ERMI or EPA-36) to ensure safer indoor air quality.
2. Immediate remediation of HVAC systems and air purification upgrades as needed.
3. Airborne Mycotoxin Environmental Analysis (AMEA) testing to confirm safer air for students and staff.
Parents deserve transparency. Students deserve safer air.
