Demand Transparency and Accountability in North Carolina Courts

The Issue

I never imagined I’d be filing a federal civil rights claim under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 against District Court judges, the Clerk of Court of Appeals, and attorneys—but here I am. After being denied due process, ignored, and retaliated against for demanding accountability in our court system.

The courts are now refusing to release the names of judges who signed orders, despite this being required under North Carolina Public Records Law. When I brought these issues with evidence to the House Oversight Committee requesting an investigation in the courts they have declined citing “internal policy”.

However, they are required to investigate as a duty to the people.

The separation of powers exists for a reason. When one branch of government avoids oversight of another—especially the judiciary—it undermines the system of checks and balances that protects all of us.

Judicial integrity is not just a legal issue; it’s a public one. Here’s why:
➡️ State's Court of Appeals and Supreme Court have final say on whether state laws are valid. Even if lawmakers pass a bill, the courts decide if it holds. If appellate courts are not independent, they may be more likely to uphold certain policies and strike down others based on alignment rather than legality.
➡️ Appellate and Supreme Court rulings set rules and interpert laws that lower courts must follow—not just today, but for years to come, across every case from civil rights to family court
➡️  When the judiciary lacks independent oversight, questionable decisions and ethical concerns can go unchecked. Without transparency and review, even serious procedural violations may never come to light—eroding public trust in the fairness of our courts.

📝 Please sign this petition to demand the North Carolina General Assembly and Attorney General investigate and implement accountability, transparency, and meaningful reform in our judicial system.

Justice cannot exist without integrity.
