Protect our Beaches - Doddis Beach and Roberts Point, Halls Head, Mandurah, WA

The issue

Over many years there has been growing anxiety and concern in the local community about the erosion of the beach from Blue Bay around Robert's Point along to Doddis Beach and the apparent rapid rate of increasing erosion in the last few years.

This coastal area has seen quite a change in the seasonal characteristics since 1994 from both man-made influences, with the opening of the Dawesville Cut, as well as changes in weather and seasonal patterns.

This beach area is a significant community asset and is one of the most popular beaches in Mandurah but, without focused beach management, is degrading.

====================================

We, the undersigned, all being residents of the City of Mandurah do respectfully request that Council consider the following request for the Doddi's Beach-Roberts Point area:

1.   The beach area and three access ways at the Roberts Point end have been severely eroded and require urgent attention and repair to prevent both pedestrian injury and further collapse of the dune leading to the carpark.

2.   Greater budget and staff priority to the care and management of this fragile dunal area and popular beach is required. For example, the two access ways either side of the stairs have only just been taped off (due to the steep drop to the beach caused by seasonal erosion) even though it has been unsafe for the past two months.

3.   An urgent independent scientific review of the coastal care program and management and prevention of seasonal erosion along Doddis Beach is requested, in consultation with residents. The review is to include the impact of the dredging operation on the beach area in the Roberts Point vicinity.

We welcome your support.

Thankyou
