Bangladesh's existing quota system which was intended to ensure equal opportunities, has unfortunately led to certain injustices. This potentially restricts the professional growth of many capable individuals, particularly in cases where job candidates are selected based on the quota rather than merit.

Based on the 2011 Census, it is clear that nearly 29.6% jobs in the public sector are selected through the quota system (source: Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics). Instead of creating a balanced system, it is felt by many that quotas have only promoted nepotism, impeded true talent, and stifled the growth of one of the fastest-developing nations in South Asia.

The massive student protests in 2018 against the quota system, particularly in Dhaka, are a testament to widespread dissatisfaction (source: Human Rights Watch). We believe that everyone in Bangladesh should have equal opportunity to succeed based on merit, and thus we call for the removal of quotas. A stronger, thriving Bangladesh with equal opportunities based on merit will bring prosperity to its citizens.
