PROTECT DEL MAR HORSEPARK--TAKE ACTION NOW!

The Issue

What's Happening

The State of California 22nd DAA, Fairgrounds Board of Directors, has directed the developers' lobbying firm, Southwest Strategies, to assist in developing a master plan of all Fairgrounds properties, including Horsepark, for possible changed use. Horsepark is at serious risk of being targeted for housing.

This Southwest Strategies "master planning process" doesn't even mention our beloved 65-acre horse and dog show property at presentations to the public, except on a map. They say that they want public input, so give them input.

Why This Matters

  • Floodplain Danger: Horsepark sits in a 50-year floodplain -- unsafe and unsuitable for any housing.
  • No Transit Access: Located 1.5 miles from shopping and services, people must have cars as no transit stops at Horsepark.
  • Environmental & Community Value: Our park borders a vital, sensitive environmental restoration zone, protects our dark skies, and serves as a priceless public space for equestrians, families, dog sports enthusiasts, and wildlife alike.
