Indivisible Baltimore County: Call for Senator Schumer to Step Down

Indivisible Baltimore County: Call for Senator Schumer to Step Down
The Issue
Under Senator Chuck Schumer’s Leadership, Senate Democrats just surrendered a rare moment of leverage to rein in the chaos and harm of Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Congressional Republicans. By voting to advance the GOP government funding bill, rather than demanding anything in return, Schumer handed more power to the extremists destroying the government. This was not just a strategic mistake - it was a demonstration that Schumer is not prepared to lead the Democratic opposition to fascism and protect our democracy. We thank him for his years of service, and call on him to step aside as minority leader.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Senator Angela Alsobrooks and Senator Chris Van Hollen for their leadership and commitment to their constituents in voting NO on the Continuing Resolution (CR). By taking this stand, they have demonstrated the courage to listen to the voices of the people they represent and to advocate for policies that align with the needs and priorities of Marylanders. In a time when bold leadership is essential, their willingness to stand firm reflects a deep commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability in government decision-making. We appreciate their dedication to protecting essential programs, fighting for fair funding allocations, and ensuring that our communities are not left behind in the legislative process.
Now, we urge our Senators to take the next critical step in ensuring accountability and principled leadership in the Senate. It is time to call for a vote to remove Senator Chuck Schumer from his position as Senate Minority Leader. His failure to uphold the interests of the people and his unwillingness to take decisive action on key issues have made it clear that new leadership is needed- leadership that prioritizes the voices of everyday Americans over political stagnation. We do not come to this decision lightly- for the country, or for our democracy. But the stakes are too high, and we need leaders who are willing to fight as hard as we are. Schumer should step aside as Minority Leader so another Democrat who’s willing to lead the opposition can step up to take his place.
With hope and determination for the future,
