PARIS DESERVES BETTER THAN SHEIN!

The Issue

✋ 110,000 SHOCKED CITIZENS

Paris, France, and our children deserve better than this destructive fast fashion.
This movement goes beyond divisions: it brings together citizens from all regions and backgrounds.

This petition was launched on October 2 by Arielle LEVY, on behalf of the collective “Une autre mode est possible” (Another fashion is possible), to denounce the arrival of Shein and fight for more responsible consumption.

🚨 Because Paris, France, and our children deserve better

On November 1, Shein is opening a store at the BHV, right in the heart of Paris.
This is not just a store: it’s the symbol of a model that destroys jobs, the climate, and human dignity.

We have already collected more than 110,000 signatures saying no.
Paris deserves better. France deserves better.

🙌 Join us to make another voice heard — one of responsible, fair, and sustainable fashion.

⚖️ A shocking symbol

Facing the Hôtel de Ville, just steps from Notre-Dame,
Shein’s arrival at the BHV is no coincidence.
It’s a provocation, at a time when everyone is recognizing the ecological and social emergency we face.

Shein means:

Over 10,000 new products per day
A carbon footprint 4 to 5 times higher than that of a European brand
Wages below €0.30 per hour
An opaque tax system with little real customs control
These practices are neither neutral nor inevitable.
They undermine our jobs, our know-how, and our collective efforts toward fairer consumption.

🌍 Meanwhile:

Temu signs an agreement with La Poste, a public company supposedly committed to CSR.
Amazon launches its “low prices” platform, worsening the race to the bottom.
And everywhere, our shops, artisans, and creators are disappearing — suffocated by unfair competition.
👩‍🏭 We signed the open letter published in Libération:

“Paris must remain the capital of those who produce with dignity.”

Because this fight goes beyond Shein.
It concerns our social model, the coherence of public policies, and the responsibility of our public enterprises.

✅ What we demand

We are neither lobbyists nor a federation.
We are citizens shocked by an incoherent decision that goes against the public interest.

We demand:

That Mr. Merlin renounce Shein’s establishment at BHV.
That public authorities conduct:
an assessment of anti-competitive effects,
a verification of fiscal and regulatory compliance,
and, if necessary, sanctions for dumping or unfair competition.
That freedom of commerce and industry finally include social and environmental criteria.
That public companies like La Poste set an example in their partnerships.

✅ A desire for something else

The 110,000 signatories of the Change.org petition #PARISMERITEMIEUXQUESHEIN(#ParisDeservesBetterThanShein) express a deep desire for change:

A desire for an economy that rewards quality, durability, and respect for life.
A desire to dialogue with those who still ignore what’s behind a Shein garment.

✅ Our message

➡ No to ultra low-cost fast fashion.
➡ Yes to an economy of meaning, respect, and sustainability.
➡ France and our children deserve better than Shein, Temu, low-cost Amazon, and their destructive models.

👉 Let’s keep signing, sharing, and raising awareness.
This is not a petition against a single store.
It’s a call for collective responsibility.

Because by accepting Shein in the heart of Paris,
we are putting our conscience, coherence, and future on display.
