The Issue

Legacy of Kain fans, unite! Sign the ultimate petition to restore Soul Reaver's cut content and scrapped ending into the remasters! 🫡

In 1999, action-adventure video game Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was released on PlayStation and PC. Developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Eidos Interactive, this sequel to 1996's Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain became a critical and commercial success upon release, and is regarded today as one of the greatest games of all time.

However, during the years that followed the conclusion of the series with the release of Legacy of Kain: Defiance in 2003, it was revealed that Soul Reaver had its final third cut due to time pressures during its development. Scrapped in-game locations, bosses, glyphs, forges and altars – you name it! Not to mention, on top of that: a completely different ending! 😱

Ever since, the Legacy of Kain community has been striving to recover and illuminate as much as they could about those darkened and long forgotten corners of the game... Hoping, one day, to finally experience them, as the original developers would've hoped themselves.

This year, remasters of Soul Reaver and its 2001 sequel, Soul Reaver 2, are finally coming to the latest platforms. Published by Aspyr, this collection comes with multiple quality-of-life upgrades, high-fidelity graphics, modern controls, improved camera... and more importantly: bonus features, notably including a special mode called "Lost Levels" allowing to play through the environments of the fabled cut content, though incomplete and only partially playable, and far from remastered...

Meanwhile, although in most aspects these remasters follow in the footsteps of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft, released earlier this year by the same publisher, unlike them they sadly do not feature any form of New Game+ to allow players to re-experience the games from a different angle in additional playthroughs, an important component of any recent games.

Then, why not hit two birds with one stone, Aspyr? While, story-wise, the cut content's scrapped ending can be considered incompatible with the sequels, it certainly wouldn't from an alternate form of playthrough, separated from the retail one, don't you think? What better way to finally restore it... than through New Game+?

Please Aspyr, restore the cut content and scrapped ending of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver through New Game+ in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered. Please, allow the fans to finally experience the game as it was intended to be. Please, let us fill this hole in our hearts of darkness at once. Thank you very much for your attention! 💙
