Address the childcare shortage in south-west Victoria.

The issue

South west Victoria is battling a critical childcare shortage.

The issue is complex, but the impacts are clear: there are simply not enough childcare centres, workers or available spots.

This is bad for families and acts a handbrake on our local economy.

To build careers, grow businesses, and raise our families locally, we need quality and affordable early childhood education and daycare.

We, the residents, employers, workers of south west Victoria, are asking the Federal Government to acknowledge the existence of childcare deserts, and act quickly to improve the availability of high-quality, affordable childcare services in our region.

Together, we will send a strong and united message to the Federal Government: that the status quo is unacceptable and south-west parents need more support.

What are the causes?

The lack of adequate childcare access in our region is a multifaceted issue with:

  1. operators struggling to attract and retain qualified staff,
  2. not enough facilities and providers, and
  3. limited housing options for workers.
