Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) have been disproportionately affected by lockdowns and the forced digital migration caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Unless more effort is made to ensure web accessibility — how websites and apps are designed so that PWDs can use them — the work-from-home economy will further isolate PWDs, among which are 2.5 million Filipinos who are blind or with poor vision. 

While the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, or Republic Act 7277, mandates that government websites follow online accessibility guidelines, digital inclusion remains elusive in the Philippines. 

We need your help to give PWDs a fighting chance to navigate these changing times with the help of technology through accessible websites and apps!

• Envision an “Accessible Bayan” that supports and champions the digital needs of persons with disabilities.
• Encourage designers and developers to apply accessibility principles when they create websites and apps. Accessible websites and apps allow the blind to “read” a website or app or the deaf to recognize what it may be saying out loud. 
• Ensure inclusion, equality, and empowerment through accessible websites and apps. Accessible websites and apps promote independence and improve the quality of life of PWDs.

Ako ay para sa Accessible Bayan, isang pagsusulong ng mga accessible website at app para sa mga Persons with Disabilities sa Pilipinas

Sa panahon ng pandemya, lubhang naapektuhan ang mga taong may kapansanan o Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) ng mga lockdown at paglipat ng halos lahat ng gawain at transaksyon sa internet (digital migration). 

Kung hindi natin pagtutuunan ng pansin ang web accessibility--o ang pagdidisenyo sa mga website at app upang magamit ng mga PWD--mapapag-iwanan sila ng work-from-home economy, kasama na ang 2.5 milyong bulag o may mahinang paningin sa Pilipinas.

Bagamat mayroong Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, o Republic Act 7277, na nagtatakdang sundin ng mga website ng gobyerno ang mga alituntunin ng web accessibility, malayo pa ang kailangan nating tahakin bilang isang bansa para maging isang Accessible Bayan.

Makiisa para tulungan ang mga PWD na sumabay sa teknolohiya at mamuhay sa pamamagitan ng mga accessible website at app! Ang iyong suporta ay nangangahulugan ng mga sumusunod:

• Paninindigan para sa isang Accessible Bayan at sa pagsulong ng web accessibility sa Pilipinas.
• Paghikayat sa mga designers at developers na gamitin ang mga accessibility principles sa paggawa ng mga website at app nang sa gayon, 'mabasa' ng mga bulag ang laman ng website o app, at maintindihan naman ng bingi ang mga tunog o audio.
• Pagsulong—sa pamamagitan ng mga accessible website at app—sa inklusyon, pagkakapantay-pantay, karapatan at kapakanan ng mga PWD.
