The Issue

As a distraught mother who has experienced the unfair removal of my son, placed with a person without my prior consent or notification, I call on lawmakers to revise the operations of Child Protective Services (CPS). This plea originates from a deeply personal space, intended to prevent families from enduring the same pain that I have felt.

CPS has been indiscriminately removing children from their families based on faulty drug tests and other dubious grounds, causing unnecessary trauma to both parents and children. The instances of manipulation, lying, and threatening are innumerable and this prevalent issue needs immediate attention.

Although the essential role of CPS is to protect children's best interests, there have been many documented instances where they've executed their power unjustly. Accordingly to a report by the National Coalition for Child Protection Reform, in 2013, 17% of the total removals were founded on unsubstantiated allegations. That's equivalent to approximately 85,000 children being taken away from their families without sufficient proof.

Given this glaring evidence of injustice, I urge you to support this plea. Let's compel our leaders to not only reform CPS but also to make sure they are held accountable for any unjust actions.

We are therefore calling for concrete measures: to improve testing mechanisms to ensure no child is unfairly taken away based on a faulty drug test; to formalize a consent process where parents' views are taken into account concerning with whom the child should be placed; and for CPS to be made answerable for their actions.

Let's stand together in this fight to protect innocent families from being torn apart. Please sign this petition; your support is our strength.
