A Family's Plea: Freedom for Robert J. Ruark
The issue
Robert J. Ruark was convicted under Ohio's felony murder law and sentenced to 31 years to life in prison following a tragic incident in 2008 which he has always maintained he was defending himself and his family from violent trespassers.
For years, supporters have argued that Robert's case deserved a second look. His trial attorney was later permanently disbarred, defense witnesses were never called, and evidence supporting his claim of self-defense was never presented.
Thanks to the efforts of family, friends, community members, faith leaders, legal professionals, advocates, and petition signers, Robert's case received renewed attention.
On May 27, 2026, Governor Mike DeWine granted clemency to Robert after reviewing his commutation application. It moves his parole date to 2027, 13 years earlier than previously anticipated.
The next step is now before the Ohio Parole Board.
Now, we need your help to bring Robert home sooner. By signing this petition, you are helping to reunite our family by saying it is time that Robert comes home. Please sign and share this petition with others who believe he is worthy of rejoining society.

With heartfelt thanks,
