Give Patients a Fighting Chance: Approve Imlifidase for Life-Saving Kidney Transplantation

Give Patients a Fighting Chance: Approve Imlifidase for Life-Saving Kidney Transplantation
The Issue
For me, the battle against end-stage renal disease has been a long and exhausting journey. Every day, I face the uncertainty of dialysis, and every day, I hold onto hope for a kidney transplant. But there’s a major challenge that stands in my way: my immune system.
Due to a condition called high sensitization, my immune system has built up antibodies that recognize donor kidneys as “foreign,” making it extremely difficult for me to find a compatible match. This happens when someone like me has had multiple blood transfusions, previous organ transplants, or even pregnancies—events that inadvertently cause the body to form antibodies.
My cPRA (Calculated Panel Reactive Antibody) level is 99.9%, meaning that 99.9% of potential organ donors may not be a good match for me. Even if I find a potential match, my body is at a very high risk of rejecting it. This is why finding a donor kidney has been so incredibly difficult, and why I have reached a point where I need help to have any chance of survival.
That’s where Imlifidase comes in. This investigational drug can temporarily "reset" my immune system by breaking down the harmful antibodies that prevent me from finding a suitable donor kidney. By lowering my sensitization, Imlifidase gives me a better chance of accepting a donor kidney—something that would otherwise be nearly impossible for me.
Imlifidase has been proven to have a very high success rate in Europe, and it has helped many patients like me get the transplant they so desperately need. However, in the U.S., it is not yet available except through a compassionate use request. This is why I am petitioning the FDA for compassionate use approval—not just for me, but for all patients who are in the same position.
My request is personal, yes, but it is also about the countless other patients who are in exactly the same situation and may not have the means or platform to advocate for themselves. Many of these patients are struggling in silence, with no clear path forward. If Imlifidase is approved for use, it could open up life-saving possibilities for all of us, and dramatically improve our chances of receiving a transplant.
For me, Imlifidase is my best hope at a second chance at life. But it’s not just about me. It’s about giving every highly sensitized patient the opportunity to live a full, healthy life—whether they have a voice like mine or not. This petition is a call for action for all of us who face this heartbreaking and isolating challenge.
I’m asking for your support. With Imlifidase, I have a fighting chance to receive the transplant I need to live. But this is also about giving hope to every patient who is struggling with the same issues, and ensuring that the door to a better future is open for them too.
Thank you for standing with me, and with everyone who needs this medication to survive.
