Petition to urge Russian Federation to suspend trade with North Korea

Petition to urge Russian Federation to suspend trade with North Korea
The Issue
I am writing to respectfully urge that Russia bans all imports and exports, especially mineral products that can be used for nuclear programme, immediately. As you are aware, on 30 November, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2321 (2016) that 'includes restrictions on transactions in coal, iron and iron ore from the DPRK, and a ban on imports of copper, nickel, silver, zinc as well as statues from the DPRK". According to the document, the measures also include steps aimed at preventing training or teaching of the North Korean nationals in the spheres that could contribute to Pyongyang's either nuclear or ballistic missile programs.

China decided to stop importing North Korean coal, cutting off a vital economic lifeline for the isolated country. On 18 February 2017, China's Ministry of Commerce said it has decided to cut off imports of North Korean coal for the remainder of 2017 as part of implementation of a U.N. Security Council resolution that was adopted last November.

The European Union also decided to expand sanctions against North Korea in accordance with the UN Security Council's decision. On 27 February 2017, the European Union adopted legal acts imposing further restrictive measures against North Korea. The measures include restrictions on transactions in coal, iron and iron ore from North Korea, and a ban on imports of copper, nickel, silver, zinc as well as statues from North Korea.

Malaysia recently accuses North Korea of murdering Kim Jong Nam. From 6 March 2017, Malaysia has cancelled visa-free entry for North Koreans entering the country. Diplomatic relations between Malaysian and North Korea are getting strained by the day.

SWIFT bans North Korean banks blacklisted by U.N. On 8 March 2017, Belgium-based SWIFT said it has stopped providing services to the North Korean banks after Belgian authorities withdrew authorization that had enabled SWIFT to serve the banks.

Thank you for your consideration.
