The Issue

Recently, the Lakewood City School District in Ohio has been discussing plans to repurpose up to 2 elementary schools. Those being considered to no longer be an elementary school are Lincoln, Roosevelt, and/or Grant, which were all rebuilt in 2016.

Local elementary schools are often the heart of the communities they serve, providing more than just education. Our schools are highly walkable, and offer our children safe commutes, many at a distance of under 1 mile from their homes. This petition seeks to express our collective concern and to urge the Lakewood City School District to keep Lincoln, Roosevelt and Grant open as elementary schools.

The school district maintains that the reasons for repurposing school(s) are not financial. They have also completed a new enrollment projection in released in February of 2025, which shows a stabilizing elementary school enrollment.

It is important that our voices are heard on how the schools should be serving the needs of Lakewood’s families. Stand with us in this vital cause to safeguard the quality of education for our children, preserve the walkability and culture, and maintain the real estate values in Lakewood.

Please, sign this petition.  Lakewood residents only
