Stop the sale of St Kilda PCYC - Demand transparency from the Board

The issue

On 3 September 2025, the St Kilda PCYC CEO announced that it would end all unfunded programs on 3 October. He also announced that the Board had decided to sell the building at 179 Inkerman Street, the organisation’s home since 1975. These decisions were made without transparency to its members and the local community.

We are petitioning the Board to stop the sale of the StKPCYC's home and allow members to have a genuine voice on this significant change to the organisation.

Who is impacted

Young people, especially those who are vulnerable, will be negatively impacted by the loss of 179 Inkerman St and the programs delivered there. More broadly, PCYC members of all ages, students from St Kilda primary school and community sports teams will lose access to a space to train in an area that already has very little accessible space for that purpose.

The seniors who use the St Kilda PCYC are the same young people that used it decades ago. The loss of the St Kilda PCYC will deprive today’s young people of that future connection and our whole community will be worse off for it.

Why Now

Until the CEO announced the closure and sale of the St Kilda PCYC, there had been no indication the organisation’s finances were in crisis. Every annual report positioned the organisation as well managed and effective when in reality, it was not. This deception has belies the lack of transparency with which these decisions were made.

All this is to say: we didn’t know what we didn’t know. Now we do. And now it’s time to hold the board to account.
