Install Stop Signs on Via De Sienna—Stop Speeders Near Our Schools
The Issue
As new development continues at and near the intersection of Hwy 29 and Ronald Reagan Blvd., the traffic on Via De Sienna has increased exponentially. Just five years ago the majority of drivers on this road were those who lived in the Rancho Sienna neighborhood or who had children attending Rancho Sienna Elementary. Today, our neighborhood is used as a cut-through to avoid lights at the highway intersections. There are also three new neighborhoods and a major shopping center that have contributed to a nightmare of speeding cars whipping past homes and the school.
With the help of the Liberty Hill Independent School District, Williamson County government, and the City of Leander, local activists last year secured the promise of a traffic light at the entrances of Rancho Sienna and Bar W on Ronald Reagan Blvd. While this will improve the safety of all those exiting and entering our neighborhood, it will do nothing about the increased traffic and speeders on Via De Sienna.
Our children walking to school, our teens learning to drive, and our residents out enjoying the beautiful Hill Country setting of Rancho Sienna deserve to have a safe environment. It is unacceptable that Via De Sienna does not have a single stop sign on its entire 1 mile length. We are calling for the installation of stop signs at the intersections of Via De Sienna at Montalcino and Palazzo and at Via De Sienna and Rancho Sienna Loop.
