My life was forever altered in 2022 when my dearly loved brother fell victim to a knife crime, leading to his untimely and heartbreaking demise. This incident shattered my family, and I'm sure many of you can empathize with the colossal impact this loss has had on our lives, as you too might have been touched by such a tragedy.

Knife crimes are not merely stories displayed on the evening news. They hold faces familiar to us, faces of people we loved, and continue to love. Every new report of a life cut short through knife crime is a cruel reminder of the loved ones we’ve lost and the heartache that has befallen us.

According to the Office for National Statistics, in England and Wales there has been a notable increase in knife crime, with a steady rise reported over the past few years. This speaks volumes on the severity of the situation, illustrating the urgency with which we need action.

We demand that measures be taken to sternly tackle this imminent issue. We implore our representatives to enforce stricter laws and penalties against knife related offenses. Investment must also be made into community support and initiatives that educate our youth about the severe repercussions of violence, providing them with healthier alternatives to resolve conflicts.

Losing my brother has been an agonising journey, but his life will not be lost in vain. We stand together to demand justice for those lives silenced by knife crime and work to cultivate a society where such senseless violence no longer exists.
