The Issue

The murals at North Park Colligate are going to be painted over, starting with the ones in the staircases during winter break, and continuing to wipe out every one from the halls. Our schools walls hold history and memories that span decades. These artistic displays are not paintings they represent the diversity and spirit of past students and artists. These murals, some of which date back to the 1990s and 2000s, have been a unique feature of our school for an extremely long time.

However, these cherished artworks are at risk of being erased by Grand Erie District Schoolboard. The decision to paint our school completely white is to “unify the schools in the district” but completely erases the uniqueness and the character that sets our school apart from others. They could inadvertently erase the essence and soul of our learning environment, taking away the history of our school and the dedication and hours students have put in painting these murals

It is crucial to preserve these murals, not only for current students but also for future generations who can draw inspiration and learn from the visual history in our halls. These murals are reminders of the history of North Park, and losing them would mean losing a vital part of our school’s legacy.

We urge the school administration and district officials to consider alternatives that would allow the preservation of these invaluable artworks while addressing any modernisation needs of the school building.

Let us unite to prevent the erasure of our school's history. Sign this petition to show your support for maintaining our murals and ensuring that the walls of our institution continue to tell their stories for years to come.
