Save Enfield's Libraries!

The Issue

Enfield Council has proposed the closure of 8 libraries in the borough. These libraries are Southgate, Winchmore Hill, Oakwood, Bullsmoor, Enfield Highway, Enfield Island Village, Bowes Road and John Jackson.

The Labour Council justify this on the grounds of cost savings, looking to save between £570,000 and £630,000 per year, while also generating up to £3.25million from property sales.

The Conservative Group in Enfield are opposed to this closure of these vital community facilities.  The fact that Enfield currently has the highest number of libraries (at 17) of any London borough is to be celebrated, rather than being diminished by a debt-ridden Labour Council desperate for cash.

We believe that even in the digital age, physical libraries provide a safe haven, not just for school students but for people of all ages, especially for residents who don’t have their own computers and who use the terminals in the libraries.  It’s vital that these centres of face to face contact, learning and community meetings are retained across the borough.

You must sign this petition to register your objection to these library closures.

In addition to signing this petition it is very important to engage in the consultation Enfield Council have launched to make your voice heard - Library closure consultation | Enfield Council
