The Issue

*As of 8/21/25 There are only 5 residents living here . They shut off power to one of the set of bungalows. My section still has power . My hope is that the property owner will demolish one set of bungalows and continue fixing up the remaining bungalows which are  livable. Thank you for your support

Hi My name is Mary . I am 44 years old. I am currently a Howell NJ resident for the past 21 years.i am on a fixed income , I live here for  21 years here . The cottages consist of about 36 apartments. A majority of the residents are considered being on low income. We have some elderly and disabled residents. Besides myself there are some residents that have been here longer than myself . The property was originally owned by The Schure’s family. It was in the family for a long . It was once a hoping resort with a couple pools, tennis courts and other activities. In the past I would say it has changed hands a couple times. The current owner have owned for the past 10 years . The owners were in ok the process of fixing up the apartments and renting them out.  Apparently the owners decided that they  don’t want to continue to make improvements . Not sure what is going on . The Twp of Howell NJ claims they are unlivable which is not all that true . These cottages are livable. We need the support of the community please . It seems like the property owners want to focus more on trying to get approval to build a warehouse and storage facility farther down the property instead of maintaining the beautiful cottages so people can have a place to live Supposedly the owners don’t want to put in the money or time to fix it up .The residents that are still here are fighting to stay . I am trying so hard to keep these historical cottages from being destroyed and us being displaced and ending up being homeless. Waiting lists for affordable housing is long . It can take years to get a answer. In August we were given till October 1 to move out. For those who stayed we continue to get all the utilities still being provided. We are good tenants. Some with children. Like myself and others we have pets I have 2 cats who I consider my children . We also still received services like septic tank pumped and trash disposal and propane being delivered. I am asking you to look into your heart and help us . I am desperate to save these historic buildings. During WW2 some of these buildings were used for military barracks. Please sign this petition. Please tell the property owners to reconsider their decision and let us continue to stay here . This is our home . We are comfortable here  .it’s peaceful and quiet. It’s very affordable . This is our home . There is no need to kick us out . I am asking for support to save these cottages. If need be they can demolish the ones that are far beyond repair and keep those that are in good condition.
