Don’t Sail With Silence – Demand Accountability from Carnival Cruise Line
The Issue
Carnival Cruise Line wants you to believe in freedom, diversity, and inclusion. It celebrates Pride Month. It promotes “gay-friendly” vacations. It waves rainbow flags at sea.
But here’s the truth behind the branding:
In July 2025, Carnival opened its private cruise destination Celebration Key on Grand Bahama Island—in partnership with a country where:
LGBTQ+ people have no legal protections.
Same-sex couples are not recognized under any form of law.
Transgender identities are erased in policy and documents.
Migrants are detained and deported without hearings.
Fox Hill Prison, the main national prison, has been condemned for inhumane, rat-infested conditions.
Church leaders still publicly call for bans on gay cruise ships.
This is the reality Carnival supports—silently and profitably.
🎭 What’s the problem?
Carnival’s $600 million “Celebration Key” project is built on a beach of broken rights.
There are no anti-discrimination laws in the Bahamas for LGBTQ+ citizens or tourists.
Asylum seekers and migrants, many from Haiti and Cuba, are detained in horrific conditions—often without legal representation or judicial review.
Police arrest people under expired warrants or questionable cause.
Bahamian bishops have historically and recently organized protests against gay cruise ships, citing “Christian values” over international rights.
🚢 Why does this matter?
Because Carnival makes money from silence. It markets itself as inclusive but stays quiet when real human lives are affected in its ports. It cannot claim to protect LGBTQ+ travelers while supporting governments that criminalize or endanger them.
Celebration Key is not inclusive.
It is a luxury mask covering systemic injustice.
✊ What we demand:
We call on Carnival Cruise Line to:
Publicly acknowledge the human rights and LGBTQ+ concerns in the Bahamas.
Add binding human rights clauses to all current and future port agreements.
Fund independent oversight and safe tourism pathways for LGBTQ+ travelers and migrants.
Suspend operations at Celebration Key until the Bahamian government enacts:
anti-discrimination laws,
fair migrant processing and detention reform,
humane conditions at Fox Hill and all detention facilities.
✍️ Add your voice:
We, the undersigned, believe that inclusion is not a marketing strategy—it’s a moral obligation.
No Rights, No Business. No Dignity, No Docking.
Until Carnival acts, we sail elsewhere.
