Save Canada's Longest Running Hip Hop Radio Show

Save Canada's Longest Running Hip Hop Radio Show
The Issue
MASTERPLAN STANDS BEHIND GENERATION NEXT IN ITS CALL FOR REINSTATEMENT.
The Masterplan Show, along with its successor Generation Next, has been a pillar and vital force in Canada’s Hip Hop community since its inception in 1989.
Beyond being one of the best Hip Hop shows for new Canadian and American Hip Hop, the institution has served as a launchpad for many artists on their come up story and helped shape the careers of icons in the city and worldwide.
Despite its 35-year legacy, CIUT abruptly cancelled the Generation Next show on June 7, 2025—without warning. Citing CRTC regulations around profanity, the station failed to provide any opportunity to address or rectify the issue before pulling the plug. No dialogue. No process.
This decision actively undermines the show’s historical contribution and the Hip Hop community’s access to public radio, a space where Hip Hop is already heavily marginalized. If this stands, we lose one of the few remaining platforms that has consistently centered Black voices, Hip Hop culture, and independent artistry in Canada.
THIS IS A CALL TO IMMEDIATE ACTION
We urge you to help to keep one of North America’s longest running Hip Hop radio shows available for future generations so that they may have a platform that is accessible to them, we cannot let this legacy be erased without resistance.
Sign the petition to reinstate Generation Next and protect its time slot for future generations.
Share this message and mobilize your networks - artists, fans, DJs, journalists, educators, and community builders alike.
Social Media please post your favorite Canadian Hip Hop artist hashtag #GenerationNext and #TheMasterplanShow to amplify awareness and advocate for the reinstatement of one of the nation’s longest-running and most culturally significant radio platforms.
This is bigger than a radio show. This is about preserving cultural memory, community access, and the future of Hip Hop in Canada.
The time to act is now.
All Donations go towards Change.org and we encourage supporters to spread the word instead of contributing financially.
