Stop Short-Term Rental Operations at 86 Cottage Ave in Albany

Stop Short-Term Rental Operations at 86 Cottage Ave in Albany
The Issue
It has become increasingly difficult to enjoy the peace and safety of our neighborhood due to the ongoing operation of a short-term rental property at 86 A/B Cottage Ave, Albany, NY 12203. For years, residents have been grappling with the consequences of having a short-term rental in a residential zone. The continuous flow of transient visitors has resulted in an increase in traffic and street parking congestion, making it challenging for permanent residents to find parking spots near their homes.
More critically, the presence of this short-term rental poses significant safety concerns. Despite several noise/party complaints submitted to the short-term rental platform, property owner, Albany Building & Regulatory Compliance Department, and the Albany Police Department, the nuisance persists. Loud parties and disruptive behavior have become recurrent incidents, stripping us of the tranquility we once cherished.
Moreover, the property has not been adequately monitored, leading to instances where codes and regulations are blatantly disregarded. The Albany Building & Regulatory Compliance Department must be proactive in enforcing existing laws and consider more stringent regulations to safeguard our neighborhood's character and safety.
We urge the City of Albany to take immediate action to halt the operations of this short-term rental. By doing so, we can restore order, peace, and safety to our community. This is not just about enforcing laws; it's about protecting our home and ensuring a safe environment for families who call this area their own.
Until a change is made, short term rentals will continue to push our neighbors from their long term residences creating the ever growing housing crisis no number of ADUs can fix (accessory dwelling units). Our own neighbor, a disabled veteran, was evicted from this very home at 86 Cottage Ave, a place he called home for many years, just for it to be turned into an Airbnb. He died shortly after, homeless.
We invite our fellow residents and concerned citizens to stand with us in this effort. Together, we can make a difference and return the harmony and security our neighborhood deserves. Please sign this petition to show your support and demand concrete action from the authorities for all future short term rental operations in Albany County.
